A Guide to Druzy Stone Jewellery Treasures of Brazil
Published on  Updated on

Have you seen our latest Druzy Stone collection, just in? We LOVE the sparkle so here’s a bit more about druzy stone - what it is, where it comes from and how to wear our druzy stone jewellery…

What is Druzy?

Druzy stones are a type of gemstone with a sparkling appearance that looks a bit like sugar.

This sparkle is caused by millions of years of sediments and silica moving over the surface of a stone, known as the foundation stone, creating a crystallisation around the edge.

The most common form of druzy is druzy quartz but you can also get druzy agate where the agate stone is the foundation stone for the druzy quartz crystals.

What Colour is Druzy?

This isn’t a simple answer because natural druzy comes in a variety of colours - it’s one of the reasons we love it so much here at Treasures of Brazil!

The colour all depends on the colour of the foundation stone (upon which the crystallisations form), and the minerals that are present.

Earthy tones are quite common but you can also find druzy in yellow, blue, black, orange, red and our absolute favourite, white druzy.

Druzy can also be found in some rather bright, vibrant colours as quartz and agate can be easily dyed.

Where does Druzy come from?

You guessed it!

Druzy can actually be found all over the world where there is an abundance of agate, but a considerable amount of druzy stones come from Brazil.

Druzy Stone Jewellery

If you’re looking for sparkle without busting your budget, then druzy stone jewellery is for you!

The druzy used in jewellery is usually left in its original form, it isn’t cut or polished like gemstones sometimes are, so the crystalline surface is left intact which gives it its dazzling appearance.

We’d recommend letting your druzy stone jewellery do the talking, whether it is for a casual daytime look or a dazzling evening style.

Druzy is pretty hard wearing so you’ll often find it in bracelets and rings, as well as in necklaces and earrings.

We’d suggest saving your druzy stone rings and bracelets for a special occasion, as it is possible to chip off the crystals on hard surfaces if you’re too rough with your jewellery.

Necklaces and earrings don’t suffer the same wear and tear as rings and bracelets so wear your druzy stone earring and necklace set whenever you want a little sparkle in your life.

How to care for druzy stone jewellery

Just as the sun’s harmful rays can damage our skin, light and heat can affect your jewellery’s durability and colour.

Here are my 5 top tips to keep your druzy stone jewellery in perfect condition:

  1. Keep your druzy stone jewellery pieces in a box with soft lining or inside a bag to avoid them getting scratched.
  2. Put your jewellery on last and take it off first - make sure you’ve finished doing your makeup before you wear your jewellery. This protects it from any damage hair or makeup products could cause.
  3. Wash with lukewarm water. To keep your druzy jewellery sparkling clean, use a tiny bit of soap and clean with a very soft brush.
  4. Keep away from heat.
  5. Don’t use harsh chemicals because they can cause damage to your druzy pieces.
